  • Safety net programs help drive down state poverty rate, By Bill Glauber, May 7, 2014, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “Rising employment and safety net programs continued to drive down an alternate poverty measure in Wisconsin, according to a study released Wednesday by University of Wisconsin-Madison researchers. While the official poverty rate for Wisconsin was 12.8% last year, researchers found that a more accurate measure was 10.2% when accounting for such benefits as food assistance and refundable tax credits…”
