Healthy Indiana Plan to reopen to childless adults, By Ken Kusmer (AP), September 1, 2009, Indianapolis Star: “Indiana wants to enroll more childless adults in its state-funded medical savings account program and will reopen enrollment for them in the future, a state consultant told lawmakers Tuesday. The federal government, when it approved the Healthy Indiana Plan, said the state could enroll no more than 34,000 childless adults, consultant Seema Verma told the Medicaid Oversight Commission. However, HIP has proven most popular among such non-caretaker adults, and the Family and Social Services Administration closed the program to that group in March. At the end of July, they made up more than 26,000 of the nearly 46,000 people enrolled, Verma said.
